The 27th Annual Student Research Conference (SRC) is accepting online submissions of abstracts for oral and poster presentations. Submissions are due by April 1 and can be completed by visiting the SRC website at www.semo.edu/src. The conference will be held April 17-18 in the University Center Ballroom.
The SRCs primary goals for 2019 are to increase participation among both students and faculty; to encourage participation from both undergraduate and graduate students from all academic disciplines; promote a culture that values research and scholarly and creative activity at Southeast; and provide the most authentic and valuable conference experience for Southeast students.
Submissions are open to any student research project in any discipline at both the undergraduate and graduate levels provided it is primarily the work of the student. New to the conference this year, poster sessions will accommodate professionally printed hanging posters. Another exciting change is that neither oral nor poster submissions require a formal written paper. This allows students to focus their efforts on meeting the rigorous expectations of a high-quality presentation and reduces the burden on faculty mentors and judges.
This years SRC will also include two additional features, the Senior Capstone Symposium and roundtable discussion sessions. The symposium will feature presentations by students who have completed senior-level capstone research experiences, such as HN499 Honors Research, Academic Distinction in the department of their major, the Center for Strategic and International Studies Seminar (CSIS)or McNair Scholars. The roundtable discussions will be facilitated by faculty members, student panelists and community members and will cover four topics, including entrepreneurship, mental health, research and sustainability.
A new award structure has been developed that increases the number of awards from three to 15 and distinguishes between undergraduate- and graduate-level research. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place presenters in each category. Every student who presents at the SRC will receive feedback on their presentation and will be eligible to win an award in their respective category.
Dr. Jennifer Ohs, associate professor and graduate program coordinator in the Department of Communication at Saint Louis University, will deliver the keynote address on Wednesday, April 17, at 11:45 a.m. in the University Center Ballroom A. All students are encouraged to attend the keynote address and conference sessions.
