Four Southeast Missouri State University students recently attended the 2019 Governors Leadership Forum on Faith and Values, held Jan. 9-11 in Jefferson City, Missouri.Created by former Missouri Governor, and 79th U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, the three-day Leadership Forum on Faith and Values encouraged students by challenging their decision-making, values and belief systems using the platform of servant leadership.Student leaders studied the principles of reconciling relationships, standing for truth and loving their neighbor as themselves. The Missouri Governors Student Leadership Forum offered a worldview that is others-centered, encouraging students to embrace altruism.Southeast undergraduate students participating in the conference were Justin Jacobs, a sophomore accounting major from Barnhart, Missouri; Renee Owens, a junior exceptional child education major from Ballwin, Missouri; Kayla Parham, a sophomore sport management major with a minor in business administration from Hillside, Illinois; and Trent Waltz, a junior psychology major with a double minor in chemistry and biology from Cape Girardeau, Missouri.The forum included the Governors Prayer Breakfast with featured speaker, St. Louis Sheriff Vernon Betts, and the 2019 Legislative Inaugural Ball with speakers Gov. Michael Parson and Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe.
