Janice Bunch, former director of outpatient services with the Gibson Recovery Center in Cape Girardeau, has been named the new director of Counseling and Disability Services at Southeast Missouri State University.

Bunch began her new duties Jan. 22. She replaces Torie Grogan who has returned to a traditional counseling role with Counseling and Disability Services.

Bunch graduated in 2005 from Truman State University with a Bachelor of Science in psychology and from Southeast Missouri State University in 2008 with a Master of Arts in community counseling. Since that time, Bunch has been employed by several nonprofit mental health and substance use agencies, including the Gibson Recovery Center, the Community Counseling Centers in Cape Girardeau and Ste. Genevieve/Perryville, Missouri, Regency Management and the Missouri Department of Social Services-Division of Youth Services. Over the course of her career, she has served as director of community support, clinical director, outpatient director and youth specialist. While in those positions, she worked with various community agencies on grants, grant program reportingandprogram evaluation. She also has consulted with areaschool districts on suicide prevention, taught suicide prevention to students and trains others on signs to be aware of when working with students.

In addition, she served as an adjunct instructor at Southeast in fall 2018.

Bunch has presented at multiple conferences as well as various community groupson the impact of mental health, the cycle of addiction and mental health, co-occurring disorders, self-medicating, managing complex cases, collaborative community management and explaining agency programming.

She is a National Board Certified Counselor, Medication Assisted Recovery Specialist, Missouri Credentialing Board Approved Substance Use Supervisor, Missouri Approved Licensure Supervisor, SATOP Qualified Professional and a DLA 20 administrator and trainer.
