We work very hard to serve as a gateway between the University and community, and its an honor to be recognized.Continuing Education was also recognized for coordinating resources within the community for individuals, develops training programs and serves as a liaison between the community and organizations.According to the proclamation, by creating partnerships with schools, departments, colleges, programs, businesses and industry, Continuing Education strengthens its role in the University and the community through such programs as Southeast Teen Outreach and Pregnancy Prevention (STOPP), the Southeast Missouri State University Partnership for Community Health Workers Program, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, Digital Badging Services, Southeast Speaks and noteworthy community events including Pumpkin Palooza and Haunted Tours.Additionally, Continuing Education was recognized for being integral in providing online training and education solutions serving the adult education, career, and corporate training markets; offering a wide variety of classes covering business, counseling, management, arts and crafts, hobbies, gourmet cooking and beverages, technology, and professional development. Continuing Education also provides online test prep courses through Ed2Go and computer training to aid in building a well-educated workforce and stimulating economic growth through education.The mission of Continuing Educations programming and events is to create life-long learning opportunities for the entire community, Mershon said.Its important that the community knows about the benefits of having a University in their backyard, and that the resources and facilities the University has are theirs too, she said.
