Musickes Cordes will perform a concert in the Chateau Girardeau Sundays at Three series Oct. 21 at Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus.

The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall.

Lutenist Jeffrey Noonan, a retired Southeast professor of music, pairs with baroque violinist Samuel Breene as Musickes Cordes presents an intimate concert of early Baroque music for violin by composers and performers working in Germany in the 17th century.

It will be wonderful to have Dr. Noonan on campus again. He and Sam Breene will share their musical expertise from a specific place and time, and the experience is sure to be immersive, said Dr. Gabrielle Baffoni, series director and assistant professor of single reeds at Southeast. Additionally, the Shuck Recital Hall, as a former chapel in the Seminary Building on the River Campus, promises to be a very fitting venue for their music and performance.

The program will focus on innovation and experimentation – 17th century style.

Since 2013, Musickes Cordes has appeared across the country with concerts in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, and Kentucky and up and down the eastern seaboard.

Trained as a classical guitarist,Noonanhas played early plucked instruments for more than 30 years across the Midwest. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, he has performed throughout the region with various ensembles including Shakespears Bande, Musickes Cordes, Early Music St. Louis, Bourbon Baroque in Louisville, Ky., Ars Antigua in Chicago and Musik Ekklesia in Indianapolis. He currently directs Such Sweete Melodie, a quintet specializing in 17th-century repertoire. As an in-demand accompanist and continuo player, Noonan performs a varied repertoire ranging from 16th-century chanson with solo voice to Handels Messiah with the St. Louis Symphony. A recognized expert on the early guitar, Noonan has produced two books and articles for Grove on the subject as well as an edition of 18th-century violin sonatas by Giovanni Bononcini for A-R Editions.

Breene is head of Music History and Literature at Rhode Island College, where he is also director of the Rhode Island College Early Music Ensemble and instructor of violin and chamber music. He is a member of the Proteus String Quartet and the Rhode Island College Symphony Orchestra. He specializes in music of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, Baroque and Classical Performance Practice and American Fiddling. He holds a doctoral degree in musicology and a Master of Arts in performance practice, both from Duke University. He also holds a Bachelor of Music History and Violin Performance from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music. He completed advanced performance studies in violin at Johannes Gutenberg-Universitt Mainz in Germany.
