Southeast Missouri State University invites alumni and students to soar at Homecoming 2018 with a full week of events Oct. 8-13 as the campus marks this fall Southeast tradition.

We truly enjoy welcoming our alumni back home to our beautiful campus to reminisce about their days at Southeast and to share with them the current excitement of where we are now and where we are going, said Trudy Lee, interim vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. This years Homecoming theme, Lets Soar, reminds us that, as our alumni reconnect with their past, we prepare to soar into our future together.

Highlights during the week include presentation of the Universitys Man and Woman of the Year; the Copper Dome Society and Merit Award Dinner featuring the presentation of the 2018 Alumni and Faculty Merit Awards, the Distinguished Service Award and Distinguished Young Alumni Service Award; the Homecoming parade; and football game.

Southeast students have chosen the theme, Now Thats What I Call Southeast, celebrating the music of the 1990s, which will be reflected in this years Homecoming parade.

Alumni of all decades join in the Homecoming festivities to celebrate the memories of their college days. Music has always been a big part of the college experience, and the music of the 90s lends itself to a celebration, Lee said.

Man and Woman of the Year Presentation

Events get under way on Oct. 8 with campus-wide online voting through Oct. 9 to select the 2018 Man and Woman of the Year. Students can place their vote via the Southeast portal, portal.semo.edu/. For more information, contact Joseph Foster at jcfoster2s@semo.edu.

A Homecoming Talent Show is slated for 7 p.m. Oct. 9 in Academic Hall Auditorium. Southeast students are encouraged to cheer on their friends as they vie for cash prizes in the annual show. For more information, contact Tushar Saini at tsaini1s@semo.edu.

A number of other events and celebrations are planned during Homecoming week.

Students and alumni will have the opportunity to engage with employers who are actively recruiting candidates for full-time and part-time employment opportunities as well as internships at the fall 2018 Career Expo Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the 2018 Healthcare Career Expo Oct. 12 from 9 a.m.-noon, both in the Student Recreation Center. Participating students will learn more about future opportunities with specific companies, identifying personal career goals and building a professional network. For more information about the Career Expo, visithttp://www.semo.edu/careers or call the Office of Career Services at (573) 651-2583.

Field Day and Spirit Rally

Field Day is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in Houck Field House. Students compete in various events, including tug-of-war, a relay race and an eating contest.

A Spirit Rally, featuring the marching band, Sundancers and cheerleaders, will immediately follow the Field Day activities. Students are encouraged to participate in a costume contest and dance competition. For more information on Field Day or the Spirit Rally, visit the Southeast Homecoming Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/SoutheastMissouriStateHomecoming/.

A Homecoming Bash is also scheduled for 8-11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, on the Academic Terraces, and all students are invited for an evening of fun, music, games and activities.

Throughout Homecoming week, the University will celebrate the generosity of Southeast alumni, parents, faculty and staff who have made so many opportunities possible for students with a Thank A Giver (TAG) initiative.

Festivities to welcome alumni to campus begin on Friday, Oct. 12, with an endowed scholarship reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Show Me Center. This invitation-only event is an opportunity for endowed scholarship donors to meet the students who benefit from their generosity. For more information, contact the Southeast Missouri University Foundation at (573) 651-2332.

Southeast students benefit greatly from our alumni and friends who support the University through their generous contributions, Lee said. Homecoming is a wonderful time to celebrate their generosity and to connect our scholarship donors and recipients.

A social begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Members of the Universitys Copper Dome Society are invited to this annual dinner during which the Alumni Associations 2018 Alumni Merit Awards will be presented.
