The Crisp Museum will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. These events are free and open to the public.
Visitors can hand stitch their initials on fabric, try out some hand tools, run the electric train, lash some riverboat knots and learn some boating lingo and more.
The Crisp Museum is also hosting two guest speakers to celebrate Cape Girardeaus Heritage Days event.
On Oct. 6 at 11 a.m., Denise Dowling, superintendent of the Trail of Tears State Park, will present Finding Needles in Haystacks: Research and the Trail of Tears. Dowling will uncover links to the Cape Girardeau areas history with her findings from a research trip to the National Archives in Washington, D.C., where she viewed some 1837 purchasing receipts that became clues which led to some insight of the Cherokee Removal story.
On Oct. 7 at 2 p.m., Christy Mershon, assistant director of Extended and Continuing Education at Southeast, will present Ghostly Tales, on some of the haunted tales of downtown Cape Girardeau. Rivertowns have witnessed some horrible tragedies in their time. Mershon explores how paranormal activity likely stems from the massive boat accidents in the 1800s two of which were so deadly, they caused a change in maritime laws. Meshon will also explore other unexplained recurrences at in the Forrest H. Rose Theatre in Grauel Building on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
