Ceramic artist Joe Page, known for creating multifaceted installations that transform gallery spaces into immersive environments, will exhibit his work in the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus Art Gallery in September.

The exhibit opens on Sept. 7 with a reception planned for 5-7 p.m. An artists talk is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sept. 7. The exhibit will remain on display through Sept. 28.

Page is area head of ceramics at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. His Flow Chart series of installations have been featured at various galleries, universities and art centers throughout the country. His work relies on vibrant colors, reductive imagery and illustrative movement derived from early video games, pinball machines, mass transit maps and schematic diagrams. He spent his childhood immersed in Legos and video games, leaving him hooked on building and making things.

This exhibition is an excellent opportunity for viewers to see ceramics utilized in non-traditional ways, said Justin Miller, associate professor of art and exhibitions coordinator. Page creates immersive installations that allow viewers to actually enter into the artwork and become surrounded by it. The combination of sculptural pieces, painting and design creates a show where there is something for everyone.

A Northbrook, Illinois, native, Page earned his Master of Fine Arts in ceramic art from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2008 and his Bachelor of Arts in studio art and anthropology from Knox College in 2003. As a visiting professor of art, he taught ceramics at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, from 2009-2014.

The River Campus Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the historic Seminary Building in Room 106. River Campus Art Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-7 p.m. on First Fridays. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public.
