The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a $2,500 grant to the Center for Faulkner Studies at Southeast Missouri State University in support of the Faulkner and Garcia Marquez Conference.The Faulkner and Garcia Marquez Conference will be held Oct. 11-13 on the Southeast campus. This years conference is the sixth in a biennial series and is expected to draw around 40 scholars from across the country and around the world to present their research on William Faulkner and the Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, both winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature.Receiving this grant will be a huge help as we host dozens of literary scholars on our campus, said Christopher Rieger, director of the Center for Faulkner Studies. Many conference events will be open to the public, so we appreciate the efforts of the Missouri Humanities Council to support programs that benefit people in our campus and local communities.The MHC is the only statewide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages.
