Southeast Missouri State University has announced the naming of The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance at Southeasts River Campus.The naming is in recognition of a generous gift from Dr. Kenneth W. Dobbins, former president of Southeast Missouri State University, and his wife, Jeanine Larson Dobbins.Their gift establishes an endowed fund to provide substantial support for experiential learning opportunities for students in The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance, including but not limited to participation in master classes, conferences and the Senior Showcase.The River Campus was envisioned and established over nearly a decade of planning during the tenure of former President Dobbins, with former First Lady Jeanine Larson Dobbins playing an instrumental and supportive role. During their service to Southeast, the River Campus became Missouris only campus entirely dedicated to art, music, theatre and dance. Since its inception, enrollment of music, art, theatre and dance majors at Southeast has seen significant growth.The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance trains students with a multitude of extraordinary experiences and contact with industry professionals worldwide, preparing them to launch extraordinary careers when they graduate on stages around the world. Southeasts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD). Southeast is also a proud member of the esteemed National Association of School of Theatre (NAST).Dr. and Mrs. Dobbins regularly attended and enjoyed numerous performances at the River Campus, bringing many University guests to tour the arts facilities as well. In 2015, the Southeast Board of Regents named the Kenneth and Jeanine Dobbins River Campus Center in the couples honor. The building was a new addition to the campus in fall 2014, featuring 90,000 square feet of space in a new building just north of the original Seminary Building and Convocation Center, forming the completion of a River Campus quad. The facility combines academic and living space under one roof and has provided expanded classroom, studio, lab and gallery spaces.
