River Campus Announces Performance Dates, Show Cast for ‘Legally Blonde Jr.’

Southeast Missouri State University announces the River Campus Summer Arts Festivals production of Legally Blonde Jr., opening June 15 as part of its two-week extended production.Legally Blond Jr.is a family friendly musical production, with music and lyrics by Laurence OKeefe and Nell Benjamin. Based on the book by Amanda Brown, it was a major motion picture and then became a smash-hit Broadway musical featuring Elle Woods as she addresses stereotypes, snobbery and scandal while chasing her dreams. Fun abounds as Elle meets new friends and learns valuable life lessons along the way.Legally Blonde Jr. will be performed in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 15, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 17. Tickets to these performances are $12. Two free performances of Legally Blonde Jr. are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, as part of the River Campus Summer Arts Festival.The cast consists of children ages 10 to 15 from the community who are registered for the Legally Blonde Jr. Workshop. They include Sam Bowen, Lydia Bryant, Mariena Collins, Noah Hager, Genevieve Heinley, Kate Hopper, Kimberly Irwin, Josalyn Lynn, Jossilin Needling, Lily Pennington, Yuliana Rust, Evelyn Smith, Rori Beth Vandeven, Isabel Wissmiller and Lyn Wissmiller.The musical is a fun show featuring the amazing talents of budding young artists, said Director Holly Lynn, a 2018 Southeast graduate.These amazing young performers learned an entire musical production, including lines, songs, choreography and prop usage in three weeks, to put together a show they and audiences will be proud of, Lynn said. There are several big musical numbers; bright, colorful costumes; and beautiful voices. Children and families are going to be delighted every single moment as they see a girl defy all odds to find herself and forge a new path and future.The production company also consists of current Southeast Conservatory of Theatre and Dance students and professional faculty and staff. Fountain St., weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., by calling (573) 651-2265 or online atRiverCampus.org.River Campus Summer Arts FestivalThe fifth annual community River Campus Summer Arts Festival on June 16 includes live music, dance, theatrical performances, magic, visual arts displays, hands-on family-friendly art expression activities, museum exhibitions, musical instruments and animal petting zoos, creative writing workshops, an arts walk, and other hands-on activities throughout the River Campus. The festival will offer an ambitious season of three shows. In addition to Legally Blonde Jr, visitors also may enjoy the whodunit meets spicy spy novel in the melodramatic comedy The 39 Steps, and the smash sci-fi comedy hit Little Shop of Horrors.The community festival is free and open to all ages in the entire region.
