The St. Louis Symphony will be returning to Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus to perform at 7:30 p.m. April 13 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall.
The program will feature Mozarts Chaconne and Pas seul from the opera Idomeneo, and Felix Mendelssohns Symphony No. 4 in A Major, known as the Italian. The program will be led by recently appointed resident conductor and director of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, New Zealand-born conductor Gemma New.
When I heard that the Symphonys new resident conductor, Gemma New, would be coming to Cape, I was thrilled, said Bob Cerchio, assistant director of Southeasts Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts. Her brilliant conducting talent is recognized throughout the world. It will be exciting to see her lead these amazing musicians and hear them once again in the intimacy of the Bedell Hall.
The program will also feature Edvarg Griegs Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Bedich
Smetanas rka, and Jean Sibelius symphonic poem Finlandia.
