Southeast Missouri State Universitys Department of Mathematics will host students from 30 area high schools to compete in the 41st annual Math Field Day Thursday, April 12.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and concludes with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. Team events begin at 9:25 a.m., while individual testing will be held from 10:10-11:30 a.m. At noon in the University Center Ballroom, students will engage in Mathletics, a team problem-solving event with a game-show type format. Events will take place in Academic Hall Auditorium and the University Center.

Approximately 650 students will compete in a multitude of areas including algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, word problems, sets and logic, exponential and log functions, matrices and determinants, computational mathematics, elementary data analysis, probability, mental arithmetic, non-routine problem-solving, analytic geometry, number bases, number theory, hand calculators and calculus.

Area schools competing in this years contest are Anna-Jonesboro Community High School, Arcadia Valley R-II, Bell City R-2, Bernie High School, Bunker R-3, Cape Central High School, Clarkton High School, Cobden High School, Eagle Ridge Christian School, East Carter High School, Farmington High School, Fredericktown High School, Gideon High School, Herrin High School, Iron County C-4, Leopold High School, Malden High School, Nashville Community High School, Naylor R-2 High School, North County High School, Notre Dame Regional High School, Oak Ridge R-4, Poplar Bluff High School, Red Bud High School, Risco R-2, Saxony Lutheran High School, Scott City R-1, St. Vincent High School, Ste. Genevieve High School and West County High School.
