The Catapult Creative House Student Studios will hold its March Artist of the Month exhibition, Submerged, with an opening reception scheduled for Friday, March 2.
Submerged will feature the work of Southeast Missouri State University artist Rigel Alipala. The exhibition is located on the second floor of Catapult Creative House and will run until March 3 with a reception to be held on Friday, March 2.
In connection with the exhibition reception, the Catapult Creative House Student Studio artists and Catapult jewelry artists are proud to present their Studio Pop-Up Shop. On March 2, the Pop-Up retail space will present the opportunity for visitors to purchase one-of-a-kind jewelry, cards and wearables, as well as ceramics and prints, all created by the participating artists. The Pop-Up Shop is located behind the Letter Press Studio on the first floor of Catapult Creative House.
The exhibition reception and Pop-Up Shop are scheduled for 5-9 p.m. March 2.
A Florida native and current graphic design student at Southeast Missouri State University, Alipala explores the nature and significance of ones roots. Whether it is a childhood memory or an heirloom with fond memories, our past is an integral component of who we are. Part nostalgia and part reflective respect, Alipalas images and objects express an affinity for her past. Through illustrations, the artist taps into a personal history and affection for the distinctly geographic region of the Florida coast. Simultaneously, Alipalas ceramic sculpture speaks to the metaphorical nature of the single starfish among the multitudes and the individual journey that occurs along the way.
Each month and as a part of a program to promote community-based and integrated art making, a student artist is chosen to exhibit their work at Catapult Creative Houses Student Studio Gallery. These exhibitions will showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations as a part of the southeast Missouri art community. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature and the role of art in contemporary society. In addition to the exhibition, attendees are welcome to tour the studio spaces, view ongoing projects and engage with the artists.
