Southeast's Prevention Resource Center is hosting three Youth Mental Health First Aid training sessions. Participants can choose from one of three sessions, and must register by the corresponding deadline:

• Thursday, Nov. 16, in the University Center Heritage Room, registration deadline is Nov. 9
• Monday, Dec. 4, in the University Center Heritage Room, registration deadline is Nov. 27
• Thursday, Dec.7, in the University Center Indian Room, registration deadline is Nov. 30

All training sessions will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Participants only need to attend one of the sessions to be certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid.There is no cost to attend a training. Lunch is provided. To register or for more information, please contact Landon Robert at lrobert@semo.edu or (573) 651-5153.Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an eight-hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches a five-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social or self-help care.Participants learn to support a youth developing signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in an emotional crisis. The Youth Mental Health First Aid USA curriculum is ideally designed for adults who work with young people ages 12-18 -- teachers, coaches, leaders of faith communities, social workers and other caring citizens.Nationally, the course is valued at $170. Because of a generous sponsorship by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, there is no cost to attend these sessions.
