The 2017-2018 Southeast Missouri State Universitys Bank of Missouri Touring Series continues with Tango Buenos Aires: The Spirit of Argentina scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeasts River Campus.
Last presented as part of the River Campus 2014-15 season, this current international tour will bring to Cape Girardeau an entirely new experience, said Bob Cerchio, assistant director of Southeasts Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts
This was so well received last time that when I heard they had produced an entirely new show, I jumped at the chance to bring this spectacular company back to Cape Girardeau, he said. This will be a great opportunity to see another aspect of this beautiful art form.
To celebrate their fifth tour of the United States, they have created an all-new program, The Spirit of Argentina. Audiences will see how this ethnic dance evolved through the river settlements, halfway houses, brothels and dancing pubs, in a rapid metamorphosis from the habanera to the milonga, and finally the tango.
Tango Buenos Aires has become one of Argentinas great cultural exports, known throughout the Americas, Europe and the Far East as the most authentic and uncompromising representative of the Tango. Tango Buenos Aires was originally created for the Jazmines festival at the famous Buenos Aires cabaret Michelangelo. They have been touring the world since 1986.
