Dr. Hamner Hill, chair of the Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religion at Southeast Missouri State University,was named interim dean of the College of Health and Human Services effective Sept. 1.He replaces Dr. Chuck McAllister who has been serving as acting dean of the college since mid-July when Dr. Morris Jenkins resigned as dean. Jenkins has returned to the faculty in the Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology. McAllister has returned to his duties as vice provost and dean of the School of Graduate Studies.Hill will serve as interim dean until June 30, 2018, or until a dean is named. He will spend the next few weeks meeting with faculty, staff, students, departments and centers in the College to create and discuss plans for moving the College of Health and Human Services forward."Dr. Hill demonstrated solid and collaborative leadership as Department Chair of Political Science, Philosophy and Religion, and he has the respect of both faculty and administrators across campus, said Dr. Karl Kunkel, Southeast provost. He will bring this strong and principled leadership to the College of Health and Human Services during the next academic year as we determine the future direction of the college. I look forward to working with Dr. Hill in this capacity."Hill recently was named director of the University Studies program. A decision will be forthcoming shortly about an interim director of that program during Hills service as interim dean.Hill has served at Southeast since 1986 where he is also a professor of philosophy and religion. His research interests are in philosophy of law and social/political philosophy, applied ethics and symbolic logic. He holds doctoral and masters degrees from Washington University, a law degree from Marshall-Wythe School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary.Meanwhile, Dr. Albert Hayward Jr., associate professor of philosophy and religion, has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religion.
