The unveiling will be held in the Student Art Garden at the corner of Broadway and Sprigg streets.
Ciskowski, of St. Peters, Missouri, received a competitive grant from Broadway Prescription Shop to fabricate a one-of-a-kind outdoor sculpture designed to serve as an inspirational focal point for the Student Art Garden.
Ciscowski is a sculpture student studying under Professor Chris Wubbena in the Department of Art at Southeast. She plans to graduate in December 2016 and move on to graduate school to earn her Master of Fine Arts. Ciscowskis artwork ranges in size and material, from large-scale steel sculptures to small woven and felted sculptures. Inspired by growth in nature, her sculptures explore whimsical and abstracted forms.
The Student Art Garden is in the heart of the Broadway Corridor between the main campus and the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University. The noon event will be open to the public and marks a growing collaboration between Southeast Missouri State University and local businesses in the support of visual art.
The Student Art Garden was established in 2015. Broadway Prescription Shop owner Lee Schlitt says Broadway Prescription Shop collaborated with Southeast Missouri State University and the City of Cape Girardeau to establish a green space that downtown visitors, students, residents and the workforce could enjoy.
Adding a piece of local art, created by a Southeast student, to this space was the perfect way to highlight both the beauty and talent here in Cape Girardeau, Schlitt said. Were also excited to grow the relationship between local businesses and the University.
This is the second student grant that Broadway Prescription Shop has provided.
