CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 8, 2016 University Communications and Marketing along with faculty and students at Southeast Missouri State University recently won several local ADDY Awards at the annual American Advertising Federation (AAF) Awards Show.

University Communication and Marketing

University Communications and Marketing was honored with two Best of Show awards in the print and digital divisions. The Will to Do Recruitment Packet was produced for Southeasts Office of Admissions. The Paul McRoberts video was produced for the Department of Athletics. The department also received four Gold, four Silver and one Bronze ADDY Awards.

It is an amazing feat to win two out of three local Best in Show ADDY awards, said Jeff Harmon, executive director of University Communications and Marketing. Its been an exciting year for the department, and its an honor for our staff and students to be recognized for their hard work and dedication.

The winners were selected from 171 print, digital and multi-media advertising projects, all created, published or aired in the Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Paducah, Kentucky, and Harrisburg, Illinois, markets between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2015.

Gold, Silver and Bronze ADDY Awards received and the category in which they were earned are as follows:

Gold ADDY Awards:

• Will To Do Recruitment Packet, Sales and Marketing, direct mail campaign;
• Paul McRoberts Video, Film, Video and Sound, branded content for online category;
• Southeast Rebranding Launch, Cross Platform, integrated advertising campaign category;
• Will To Do Brand Commercial Campaign, Film, Video and Sound, regional commercial campaign category

Silver ADDY Awards:

• Fall For Dance, Cross Platform, integrated advertising campaign category;
• Redhawks What We Do Best Campaign, Cross Platform, integrated advertising campaign category;
• Admission Video Series, Film, Video and Sound, internet commercial campaign category;
• Campus Campaign, Collateral Material, special event material category

Bronze ADDY Awards:

• River Campus Season Brochure, Sales and Marketing, brochure category

Department of Art

In addition, Southeasts Department of Art won a Gold ADDY Award for the River Campus 2015 Summer Arts Festival Poster in the Out of Home, poster category.

I had such fun designing this poster for this very popular annual event, and I appreciate the opportunity from Rhonda Weller-Stillson and the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, said Louise Bodenheimer, professor and area head of graphic design and illustration in Southeasts Department of Art. It’s exciting to see the complete design scaled up and bright on the digital billboards in addition to appearing in print media in the area. Winning the Gold award was very satisfying and surprising at the same time. It was grand to have professionals outside the community recognize its merit. I was very happy with the image, colors and impact it made last year.

Students

Nineteen student ADDY Awards – four Gold, eight Silver and five Bronze were presented to students from Southeast Missouri State University.

Dr. Sandy Sen (Southeast associate professor of marketing) and I are so very proud of our students who have worked together on the communication needs of their clients, Zickfields Jewelers, Minglewood Brewery and Nature Puriss, said Bodenheimer. I recently attended an American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) Student Conference and the keynote speakers encouraged students to partner with other students outside of their areas of study. This is exactly the type of learning experience and collaboration we are striving for here at Southeast. I am also extremely proud of my graphic design students and their creative projects that were entered into the show. In looking at the entire range of student entries on exhibit at the awards celebration, it was a pleasure to hear so many compliments for our Southeast students.

Local Gold AAF winners are eligible to compete in the second level of the three-tiered American Advertising Awards Competition, the District 9 competition. The district judging will be conducted this month and includes entries submitted by other AAF clubs throughout Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. District 9 winners will be eligible for the ultimate competition, the national ADDY, presented in June every year by AAF. As a three-tiered national competition with 40,000 entrants overall, the national ADDY Awards are the advertising industrys largest and most representative competition, recognizing creative excellence and the very best advertising worldwide.

Tri-State Advertising & Marketing Professionals is a non-profit organization made up of communications professionals in the Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Paducah, Ky.; and Harrisburg, Ill., areas. Tri-State AMP is affiliated with the American Advertising Federation and the Ninth District, AAF.
