The Southeast Missouri State University Studio Jazz Ensemble has been invited to appear at the 49th annual Elmhurst Jazz Festival in Chicago.
The premiere jazz organization of Southeast also will perform at four high schools in the Farmington/Festus, Missouri, area on Thursday, Feb. 25, including North County High School, Hillsboro High School, DeSoto High School and Jefferson R-7 High School.
The Studio Jazz Ensemble will perform four selections at their Elmhurst performance: Decoupage by Hank Levy, a chart written for the Stan Kenton jazz orchestra in 5/4 time; Told You So by Bill Holman, recorded by the Count Basie orchestra; Bedouin by Duke Pearson, recently re-scored and released by Doug DuBoff, and Better Get Hit In Your Soul by Charles Mingus. Featured soloists include Steven Watkins (alto sax, flute senior music performance major), Dustin Haigler (keyboard junior music performance major), Daniel Atwood (guitar senior music performance major), Jon Allgeyer (trumpet junior music performance major) and Matt Flanagan (trombone junior music performance major).
The band will perform at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, in the Hammerschmidt Chapel on the Elmhurst College campus. Admission to this event is free.
