CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 29, 2016 — The Jazz Sultans will perform Feb. 4 at Dempseys Drinkery, 127 N. Water Street, in the historic downtown district of Cape Girardeau.
The Sultans will feature the ever popular Matt Yount on keyboards, Jay Contrino on drumset, Bob Conger on trombone, Michael Goldsmith on tenor saxophone, Kyle Clay on bass and special guest Bob Lark (trumpet).
The concert is scheduled for 7-10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Anyone under the age of 18 may attend until 10 p.m.
Lark has recorded with top names in the jazz world including Phil Woods, Rufus Reid, Jim McNeely and Mark Colby and is an exclusive Yamaha Performing Artist. He serves as chair of the Jazz Studies Program at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, where he directs the University Jazz Ensemble and The Phil Woods Ensemble, teaches jazz trumpet and courses in jazz pedagogy, jazz history and jazz style. Under his direction The DePaul University Jazz Ensemble has produced several Outstanding Performance Awards from the Jazz Educators Journal, Down Beat and Jazz Times magazines, and has recorded albums with legendary jazz artists Phil Woods, Clark Terry, Louie Bellson, Bob Brookmeyer, Jim McNeely, Jeff Hamilton, Slide Hampton, Randy Brecker, Tom Harrell, Ira Sullivan, Mark Colby, Bobby Shew and Frank Wess.
Lark will appear with the Jazz Sultans for one night only, along with top local jazz artists including regular Goldsmith on tenor sax, Conger on trombone alongside Clay (bass) and Contrino (drumset). This promises to be an epic show. Be sure to be early in order to get a good seat.
Lark will also appear with the Jazz Ensembles of Southeast Missouri State University at the Clark Terry/Phi Mu Alpha Jazz Festival concert Friday, Feb. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Donald C.
