The museum's historical collections cover a wide range of artifacts with strengths in the areas of militaria, firearms and their accessories, clothing, and hand tools. Changing thematic displays illustrate different aspects of the past.

As of the early 2000s, the historical collection also contains a range of historical artifacts pertaining to the Mississippi River and other major U.S. rivers obtained through the Golden Eagle Museum in St. Louis. This collection is a combination of photographs and equipment from the steamboat days on midwestern rivers.

Golden Eagle Museum

The Golden Eagle Museum began as a club in the 1940s and was developed by a group of individuals who shared a passion for river history. This museum operated out of St. Louis for over 30 years until attendance and volunteer work became hard to find and the museum had to disperse their artifacts among historical organizations mainly in St. Louis and Cape Girardeau.
