SEMO's Department of Mathematics programs equip you with critical problem-solving skills, a solid mathematical foundation, and prepare you for a dynamic career in various fields.

Our faculty has expertise in actuarial science, algebra, combinatorics, cryptography, data science, differential equations, geometry, graph theory, mathematics education, number theory, statistics, and topology.

Our majors are actively involved in three student-run organizations, the Actuarial Science Club, Math Club, and SAME (Student Association for Mathematics Educators). During the fall and spring semesters, Actuarial Science Club meets at noon on the first and third Wednesdays of each month and the Math Club meets at noon on the second and fouth Wednesdays of each month!

The Department hosts the MCTM Elementary Mathematics Competition and the Math Field Day contest each spring.

Undergraduate Programs

Our Department offers undergraduate bachelor’s degrees in applied mathematics/statistics, actuarial science, and mathematics education.

Competitions

Our mathematics students put their knowledge to the test outside of the classroom. Southeast enters several competitions each semester. They range from individual to team events. Southeast also hosts math competitions for local elementary and high school students.

Mathematics Placement Information

All students must complete a mathematics course to receive a degree. Our mathematics placement process help you find the best course for you and your program. Students are initially placed based on the ACT Math subscore or the SAT Math Score.
