Here in Cape Girardeau we have a lot to be proud of. No matter who you are, we believe there's something here for everyone to enjoy!
1.) History
Cape Girardeau (formerly Cape Girardot) was established by French-Canadian Louis Lorimier in 1793, less than a century before Southeast Missouri State University (then the Third District Normal School) was established. Since then, the city has picked up some stories to tell and several places to learn about the history of this river town from its start as a tiny trading post to the role it played as the backdrop of a major motion picture in 2014.
2.) Entertainment
No matter what you’re looking for, you can find it in Cape Girardeau! From sporting events to theatrical productions and most everything in between, Cape Girardeau has no shortage of day trip hot spots and weekend outing locations. And don’t forget about the many seasonal and one-time events held in Cape Girardeau, many of which have low-cost or no-cost entry!
3. The People
SEMO students are often seen off-campus doing internships with local businesses leaders and volunteering for service projects with Cape Girardeau community members. In both of these roles, nothing compares to the lasting impression the people make on our students.
4. The Food
That “where should we go to eat?” question is way hard to answer in Cape, but we’re seeing that as a glass-half-full (of locally roasted coffee, bubble tea, maybe a customized smoothie…). Cape Girardeau is teeming with one-of-a-kind eateries plus familiar favorites for those times you want to venture outside of your meal plan.
5. The View
Do we even need to explain this one? Look at that picture. That’s in our backyard.
