The Department of Art and Design at Southeast Missouri State sponsors an after school art program to empower underserved youth through relationship building and art making activities. Art educators, art education majors, and artists volunteer their time to enrich the lives of the Art Reach students. The curriculum explores a variety of cultures, disciplines, and media. In addition, guest artists discuss and demonstrate their art processes. A culminating exhibit of the Art Reach students’ work is displayed annually at the River Campus Center during the River Campus Arts Festival in June and at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri in August.
Creative Kick is a daylong creative studio workshop for high school students and their art teachers. Students are able to participate in fine art, interior design, or commercial multimedia sessions. Teachers also participate in creative sessions and share their teaching innovations. During the event participants visit exhibits on campus and tour the facilities.
Ages 14 to collegeCamps
The Southeast Studio of Visual Art is an exciting and intensive weeklong experience for artists. The academy will challenge students technically and artistically through a variety of courses taught by faculty and professional artists Throughout the course of the week students will explore both two-dimensional and three-dimensional artistic mediums in studio-style classes while working in a university environment.
This experience offers artists the opportunity to discover new mediums and techniques on an individualized basis, as well as create art that can assist students in the creation of an artistic portfolio that may be used in university and scholarship applications. The studio experience culminates with each artist participating in an exhibition of their work on Saturday, August 8.
