Students in the finance program at Southeast Missouri State University are prepared for the increasingly important area of financial management in businesses, firms, and financial institutions. A financial officer is responsible for activities such as raising and allocating funds, cost analysis, forecasting and budgeting, investment management, and formulating financial and credit operating policies.  

Start Leading Before You Graduate with a degree in finance

While pursuing a bachelor of science in finance at SEMO, you’ll start your journey toward a career in financial planning, investment banking, risk management, insurance and more. Your coursework and experiential learning experiences will prepare you with problem-solving skills employers seek. You’ll also:  

  • Attend student finance conferences and visit financial institutions such as the Chicago Board of Trade, the Federal Reserve and the Mercantile Exchange. 
  • Manage a “real money” portfolio. 
  • Work closely with qualified, award-winning faculty in a small class environment. 
  • Gain global experience with more than 30 study-abroad programs offered with the Harrison College of Business. 
  • Gain experience at SEMO’s Center for Economic and Business Research, which provides undergraduate students with experience conducting and publishing economics research. Operated by SEMO faculty and advised by professionals in the industry, the center develops research, publishes a quarterly newsletter, and hosts meetings to promote economic development in the state of Missouri.

Missouri’s opened the door to a more educated workforce. We want to help you walk through it. If you’re an adult learner and a Missouri resident returning to college, learn about the Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant. It’s a statewide financial aid program that can be used to pursue a certificate, degree or industry-recognized credential in a high need area in Missouri. This major is eligible for the Fast Track grant.

Accelerated Master’s Degree

SEMO offers an accelerated master’s degree for current students. You can get both undergraduate and graduate credit for some 500 level courses, meaning you can graduate with an MBA sooner.
