Transfer Student Orientation Schedule

Below is a schedule for the day's events and activities. You will listen to a series of speakers who will help you better understand which classes to take, what resources are available to you on-campus, and how to take advantage of your new environment!

9 - 9:30 a.m. Check-in, IDs & Refreshments

During check-in students will receive a packet of information including a schedule of the day, surveys, a student information booklet, as well as many other important materials. During this time, may also have their ID pictures taken and speak with Orientation Leaders about their experiences at Southeast. Please note that students will need to present a state- or federally-issued ID in order to receive their Southeast ID card.

PRE-SESSION: Tips for Education Transfers (Required for all education majors, regardless of level. Please check in between 8:45-9:00 a.m. in order to attend this session) 

9:30 - 9:35 a.m. Welcome! UC Ballroom
Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success & Dean of Students, Dr. Debbie Below, welcomes guests and describes the events of the day.
9:35-9:40 a.m. Technology Tips UC Ballroom
A representative from Admissions and an Orientation Leader will give an overview of campus technology (including the Portal, Email, DegreeWorks, your checklist, and our LMS Canvas) that you will need to be familiar with to ensure your success at Southeast.
9:40 - 10:05 a.m. Jumpstart Your Southeast Schedule UC Ballroom
A representative from the Registrar's Office will discuss graduation requirements and the General Education Program.
10:05 - 10:10 a.m. The Center for Writing Excellence UC Ballroom
Staff from The Center for Writing Excellence describe the importance of writing assessment and how it relates to transfer students at Southeast. 
10:10 - 10:25 a.m. Charting Your Path! Career Services at Southeast UC Ballroom
Career Services staff will discuss the University's unique Career Services proficiency checks.
10:25 - 10:45 a.m. Southeast Campus Connections UC Ballroom
This session focuses on issues related to the transition process for students and family alike. It is facilitated by a member of the Dean of Students' staff. Staff members from the Campus Health Clinic, University Counseling Services, and Campus Safety comprise a panel of experts ready and willing to discuss services available to the student body.
10:50 - 11:10 a.m. On-Campus Living UC Indian Room
Residence Life staff will provide an overview of what it is to live in the residence halls, the resources available to students, as well as a description of the dining facilities.
10:50 - 11:10 a.m.. Off-Campus Living UC Ballroom
If you are a commuting to campus, Admissions Transfer Recruitment staff will offer tips on how to get involved and succeed as a Southeast commuter student.
11:15 - 11:35 a.m. Show-Me the Money UC Ballroom
Do you have questions about financial aid, scholarships, or even the FAFSA? This session will provide an overview of financing college. If guests have specific questions about a student's financial aid, Student Financial services staff is available for questions.
11:35 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Lunch

Students and their guests may take time to eat lunch, ask questions, and browse our information fair, hosted by departments across campus.

Representatives of the Jane Stephens Honors Program will speak with students and guests about Southeast's Honors Program. In this session, staff will discuss the benefits of the program and describe completion requirements.
12:15 - 3:30 p.m. Individual Advising Appointments
for all students who requested
an advising appointment
Locations across campus
Students who have not yet enrolled in classes and have requested an appointment will meet with an academic advisor at this time. The advisor will help students choose classes which are best tailored to students' needs. All students should check out after their advising appointment at the location indicated on their packet.

The 12:30 tour leaves from the University Center. The 1:00 and 2:00 tours leave from the Office of Admissions in Academic Hall. Academic Spaces and Residence Halls are shown during this tour.
