transfer student orientation

We understand your transition to college is changing. We're all learning new processes, and in true Southeast Missouri State fashion, at least we're learning them together.

The format for 2021 orientation and enrollment events is explained below.

During this time, we're more committed than ever to helping you navigate college and stay on track to join us in the fall. We have a robust orientation process- and that won't change- because we want to promote your educational, career, professional and social deveopment while helping you understand your options and resources.

We know that you will do what it takes to find success.

At Southeast, we are committed to making the transition to our campus community easier for you. Transfer Orientation is for all students who have completed 24 or more college credit hours prior to enrollment at Southeast. This optional program is designed to familiarize students and guests alike with academic guidelines and campus services available at Southeast.

Transfer Orientation introduces you to the personal support systems in place to set you up for amazing achievements in your time on campus. We give you the time and place to meet with your academic advisor in one of our groundbreaking academic areas that will help you launch an extraordinary career.

We can't wait to see what you do!

2021 Spring Transfer Orientation

  • Please contact your assigned advisor to schedule an appointment for advising and for assistance with enrolling in classes. View your credit evaluation for contact information.
    • You can also view your assigned advisor in SupportNET or DegreeWorks within your Student Portal.
    • If you do not know who to contact, or need to make a change to your major before being advised and enrolling in classes, contact New Student Programs.
  • All transfer students will recieve access to an online orientation course with supplemental information.

If you have under 24 transferrable credit hours (at least one full semester post-high school), as determined by your credit evaluation, you must complete FirstSTEP Orientation. Register for that event here.

Orientation Fee
A $75 non-refundable orientation fee will be charged to your account after you have attended a face--to-face orientation. This fee covers all steps of your orientation experience while enrolled at Southeast including meals for you and your guests, publications, materials, postage and staffing of orientation events.

There is no charge for the online course.

All New Transfer Undergraduate Domestic Students (not exclusively at a regional campus or in a fully online degree program) will be charged a $100 enrollment fee on their first full semester bill to Southeast. There is no separate charge for orientation.

Parking

The Transfer Orientations are held in the University Center on the corner of Henderson Street and Normal Street. Please park in the visitor lot across from the University Center. A parking permit will be mailed with your confirmation, approximately two weeks prior to your session.

Academic Advising

At Transfer Orientation, you have the option of having our office make your advising appointment for that day, or you may opt to call your advisor to make an appointment for a different date.  When you call our office, we will give you your advisor information, or you can refer to the information emailed with your credit evaluation from the Registrar's Office.

Southeast Connection

Southeast values experiential learning and open communication among faculty, staff, and students. Through interactive sessions facilitated by Southeast faculty, staff and student Orientation Leaders, you will receive "nuts and bolts" information, meet other members of your class and begin your Southeast connection.

Orientation Handbook

As entering Southeast students, information about all the university resources can become overwhelming.  To help you along, we have created an Orientation Handbook which lists information on classes, advising and enrollment, campus living, financial aid, and other services.  (The Orientation Hanbook for Summer and Fall 2021 Enrollment will be available in early February.)

Don't Forget to...
  • Be on time! Checking in late will delay your enrollment process.
  • Display parking permit as instructed.
  • Bring an unofficial copy of any college credit that you have already received, have in progress, or plan to take prior to transferring from Southeast.
    • Official transcripts from all institutions from which you have taken college-level credit must be one file by the time you begin classes at Southeast.
Things to Remember
  • Make sure your most current and highest test scores are on file with Admissions. You may wish to bring a copy of your most recent scores in case of any discrepancies.
  • Be sure to check the deadline for all tuition fees, residence hall room and meal plan charges, and general fees, to be paid in full or to be enrolled in the installment payment plan. If the University does not receive payment by the deadline, you risk having your class schedule, residence hall room assignment, and meal plan canceled.
  • If you are transferring with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5, you are eligible for Southeast's Honors Programs and should attend the Honors session held during the Transfer Orientation.
  • Every student must return his/her Residence Life Agreement (with $150 deposit) or a request for release from the on-campus residency requirement to the Office of Residence Life. This may also be turned in during Transfer Orientation.
