The Southeast experience includes more than just attending classes; it's about being engaged in your University home and taking advantage of the countless opportunities we offer beginning the first week! Check back frequently for new events and updates!

 

Event Time and Location Description
Early Bird Move-In 6-8 am; SRC-North

Students who cannot arrive during their scheduled time, or who want a head start on the day can check-in during this time. Details are provided in the move-in information mailed to each student in early June. Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life. 

New Student Move-In Day 8 am - 3 pm; SRC-North

First-year students will check in during their scheduled time. Check-in times are listed in the move-in information mailed to each student in early June. Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life.

Living in your Community: Residence Hall Floor Meetings & Activities, Evening, Floor or Hall Lounge

Early Evening; Residence Hall Lounges All new students living in the residence halls will meet with their Resident Assistant and Hall Director who will introduce them to on-campus living.  Please bring your Engage in 8! with you to the meeting. Your Resident Assistant will provide you with more information once you check into your hall.  Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life.

Move-In Bash

8-10 p.m.

First STEP Orientation

7:45 a.m.-2 p.m., University Center

Students who have not attended a First STEP orientation must attend today's session.  Failure to complete the First STEP process will prevent students from registering for classes. First STEP includes informational sessions, advising, enrollment and lunch. Sponsored by New Student Programs.

Commute and Connect!

9 a.m., Student Recreation Center-North (2nd Floor)

Get the inside scoop on what it's like to be a commuter student. Mingle with other commuters and learn how to get involved and connect with campus. Be sure to get your free Southeast T-shirt to wear to the Welcome Convocation! The group leaves at 9:40 to head to the Show Me Center for   Convocation. Sponsored by New Student Programs and Recreation Services.

Welcome Convocation

10 a.m., Show Me Center

The Welcome Convocation is the one chance you will have to be with all of your peers entering Southeast in 2016!  Be sure to wear the t-shirt you received during Residence Hall Check-In or at the Commute & Connect event Friday morning.  At the Welcome Convocation, you will be greeted by University President Dr. Carlos Vargas and Student Government President.  You will also learn more about other Opening Week activities.  Sponsored by New Student Programs.

Southeast 101

11:30 a.m., Various Campus Locations

As first-year students, you can connect with faculty and staff as well as your Opening Week leader during this interactive session. Lunch is provided with your Southeast 101 group. Southeast 101 groups depart from the Show Me Center at the conclusion of the Welcome Convocation. Sponsored by New Student Programs.

College Meetings

2:30-4:30 p.m., Various Campus Locations

Students will have the opportunity to hear the Dean of their College speak as well as interact with faculty members from their departments. Shuttles will be available to take students back to the Show Me Center parking lot at the conclusion of your meeting.

 

Student Government Ice Cream Pig Out

7 p.m., Student Recreation Center

This all-you-can-eat Southeast tradition offers great food, friends, and fun! After enjoying ice cream served by Southeast students and administrators, stick around for an exciting performance! Sponsored by Student Government.

 

Saturday, also known as "Campus Engagement Day," typically has over 15 activities. Check back regularly for updates to the day's schedule.

Stroup Fountain/Kent Library Lawn
NPHC (Historically African-American Greek Letter Organizations) hosts a weekly Hump Day Stroll competition open to all of campus. Strolling has become part of the NPHC culture as organizations display practiced routines of energized synchronized dance. Join us for fun and entertainment.
