It's that time of year again, and the Southeast community is excited to welcome all students back to campus! The Southeast experience includes more than just attending classes; it's about being engaged in your University home and taking advantage of the countless opportunities we offer beginning the first week! Use this guide to see all the fun events we have planned for you.

Event Time and Location Description
Early Bird Move-In 6-8 am; SRC-North

Students who cannot arrive during their scheduled time, or who want a head start on the day can check-in during this time. Details are provided in the move-in information mailed to each student in early June. Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life. 

New Student Move-In Day 8 am - 3 pm; SRC-North

First-year students will check in during their scheduled time. Check-in times are listed in the move-in information mailed to each student in early June. Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life.

Living in your Community: Residence Hall Floor Meetings & Activities, Evening, Floor or Hall Lounge

Residence Hall Lounges All new students living in the residence halls will meet with their Resident Assistant and Hall Director who will introduce them to on-campus living.  Please bring this booklet with you to the meeting. Your Resident Assistant will provide you with more information once you check into your hall.  Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life.

Move-In Bash

8-10 p.m.,  Kent Library Plaza

Meet new people while enjoying fun activities.

First STEP Orientation

7:45 a.m.-1 p.m., University Center

Students who have not attended a First STEP orientation must attend today's session.  Failure to complete the First STEP process will prevent students from registering for classes. First STEP includes informational sessions, advising, enrollment and lunch. Sponsored by New Student Programs.

Commute and Connect!

9 a.m., Student Recreation Center-North (2nd Floor)

Get the inside scoop on what it's like to be a commuter student. Mingle with other commuters and learn how to get involved and connect with campus. Be sure to get your free Southeast T-shirt to wear to the Welcome Convocation! The group leaves at 9:40 to head to the Show Me Center for   Convocation. Sponsored by New Student Programs and Recreation Services.

Welcome Convocation

10 a.m., Show Me Center

The Welcome Convocation is the one chance you will have to be with all of your peers entering Southeast in 2014!  Be sure to wear the t-shirt you received during Residence Hall Check-In or at the Commute & Connect event Friday morning.  At the Welcome Convocation, you will be greeted by University President Dr. Kenneth W. Dobbins and Student Government President Caleb Cockrill.  You will also learn more about other Opening Week activities.  Sponsored by New Student Programs.

Southeast 101

11:30 a.m., Various Campus Locations

As first-year students, you can connect with faculty and staff as well as your Opening Week leader during this interactive session. Lunch is provided with your Southeast 101 group. Southeast 101 groups depart from the Show Me Center at the conclusion of the Welcome Convocation. Sponsored by New Student Programs.

College Meetings

2:30-4:30 p.m., Various Campus Locations

Students will have the opportunity to hear the Dean of their College speak as well as interact with faculty members from their departments. Shuttles will be available to take students back to the Show Me Center parking lot at the conclusion of your meeting.

 

Student Government Ice Cream Pig Out

7 p.m., Student Recreation Center

This all-you-can-eat Southeast tradition offers great food, friends, and fun! After enjoying ice cream served by Southeast students and administrators, stick around for an exciting performance! Sponsored by Student Government.

SAC Event

8 p.m., Student Recreation Center

Don't miss this amazing show. You could even be a part of the performance! Sponsored by Student Activities Council.

 

Saturday, also known as "Campus Engagement Day," typically has over 15 activities. Check back regularly for updates to the day's schedule.

College of Education Welcome Picnic

TBD p.m., Scully Hall "Front Porch"

All freshman education majors from all areas of study are invited to play kickball, get information about student organizations, enjoy free food, and meet faculty and staff. Sponsored by the College of Education.

Student Involvement Fair 5:30-7 p.m., University Center Get involved on campus by finding the perfect student organization for you.  Many of the student organizations will have a booth with information, and some groups will showcase their talents.  Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about life outside of the classroom.  Sponsored by Campus Life & Event Services.
Welcome Back:  First Night Party 9 p.m.-1 a.m., Student Recreation Center Meet new people and reconnect with old friends at this annual party. Free and open to new students, returning students, international students, everyone! Sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Welcome Back Picnic 4-6 p.m., Show Me Center

Don't miss this year's Welcome Back Picnic!  There will be food and lots of freebies in the Show Me Center from Cape Girardeau businesses and organizations, University departments, and student organizations.  Sponsored by Chartwells Educational Dining Services and New Student Programs.

Group Fitness Class Free Preview Through September 5  

The Group Fitness Free Preview offers students opportunities to try our Group Fitness classes for FREE. Classes begin today. Try TRX Suspension Training or Insanity for a challenging full-body workout that is sure to leave your muscles shaky and begging for more. You may try Yoga Flow for a relaxing and rejuvenating workout day. Or if you want to try something new, you can try our Power Vinyasa Yoga or Source Barre classes.  We have a variety of classes to choose from, such as Aquafit, Cycle Fit, Core Strength, and more, so try different classes to find your favorites!  Make sure to take advantage of our 2-week Free Preview!  A semester unlimited pass is $40.00 or a one-time pass is $5.00.
