Over the last few years, the Internet has revolutionized communication in a way unmatched since the printing press. People now expect a two-way conversation instead of just absorbing messages thrown at them by media and advertisers. It has never been easier to keep in touch with the people, ideas, products and institutions that you’re interested in. This whole movement towards connectivity and dialogue is summed up as “social media,” and it is redefining the rules of communication.

As an institution Southeast now has an unprecedented opportunity to communicate with its students, faculty, staff and alumni through these social media tools. But it’s important to understand the rules of the game and make sure that the University is represented well in this brave new world.

Your official University Web presence should always have priority over any other Web-based communication tool. Only after you are sure that mechanisms are in place to make sure the content on your RedDot Web site is always up to date should you consider utilizing these other tools.
