Missouri State (DESE) requirements for the graduate level ESOL Certificate program include 21 hours of coursework in the areas of Theories of Second/Foreign Language Learning, Methods/Techniques of TESOL, Materials/Assessment of TESOL, Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Practicum in TESOL, and an elective related to the field. A teacher must also hold a valid teaching certificate in Missouri and show coursework in Teaching Reading in the Content Areas and Psychology of the Exceptional Child.

DESE Certification Requirements

These DESE certification requirements through July 31, 2017. Anyone applying for certification after that date will have to meet the guidelines listed on page 57 of this document.
