The tremendous influence of housing thousands of students on energy and water resources constitutes a high percentage of Southeast’s environmental impact. In the future we hope to gain a better understanding of how much of an impact our living quarters have, and what measures we can take to shore up inefficiencies in energy and water usage. The optimal choice will be an outreach program to educate students about the benefits not only to the environment, but also to themselves, of living efficiently. However, researching alternative energy generation and water usage methods will also be a serious and critical step in moving Southeast in a truly sustainable direction.
Our most recent effort to be conscious of our impact on the earth has led to the recycling of 1,250 old mattresses that were replaced in 4 residence halls across campus.
