Supplemental Instruction (SI) is provided through Learning Assistant Programs. Sessions are offered in selected courses each fall and spring semesters.

SI Leaders provide two to three sessions each week, starting the second week of each semester. SI Leaders work with the faculty to design the sessions around the course syllabus and course content. Sessions are open to all students enrolled in the particular courses connected with Supplemental Instruction.

SI sessions are designed to help students understand course lectures, class readings, and mastering course concepts. Historically, students attending SI sessions are more confident in the classroom, more prepared to complete assignments, and build a stronger connection with the faculty member.

Nationally Accredited

Southeast’s SI is only one of two Missouri schools to be accredited through the International Center for Supplemental Instruction.

Being a part of University Tutorial Services has greatly improved my abilities as a leader and helped develop new skills that will transfer to my future career as an educator. Tutorial Services is a great service to utilize when I'm struggling in a particular course and need help from a fellow student who has taken it before and knows what to expect. As a tutor and Supplemental Instruction Leader myself, it's rewarding to see students return to a session with good news regarding test results or a grade improvement after we've worked together. To see excitement on a student's face when they improve their knowledge and understanding and become more independent, it makes me feel so proud for them and myself as a tutor and SI Leader.

Becoming a Supplemental Instruction Leader

Students interested in becoming a Supplemental Instruction Leader must complete a survey and submit a Supplemental Instruction Leader Application. A copy of the application will be sent to your Southeast email account once you complete the survey.

All SI Leaders must have earned an "A" or "B" in the course they wish to support. In addition to submitting the Supplemental Instruction Leader Application, applicants must submit a copy of their Student Degree Audit from Degree Works. Learning Assistance Programs will contact the references listed in the application to complete a Reference Check Form. Once all items are received, the applicant will be contacted.
