You have been through this before, but each school tends to differ slightly. Please
do not assume that everything transferred, you must double check!
FAFSA:
When you transfer to Southeast, the first step to applying for financial aid is to
submit a copy of your current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you have already completed one for the same year, but had it sent to
your previous institution, you can easily add our school code. This allows us to receive
your information. Simply follow these instructions:
- Click on the “Login” button and provide the information requested to access your account.
- On the My FAFSA page, click “Make FAFSA Corrections.”
- Navigate to the “School Selection” page
- Click on “Add A School”
- Enter Southeast Missouri State University’s school code, 002501
- Be sure to submit your new information
When we receive your FAFSA there is a chance you could be chosen for verification.
If chosen, you still need to complete this process even if you already completed it
at the other school. For more information on verification, please visit our Verification page.
Notify Your Current School:
As soon as you are accepted for admission to Southeast, please notify the financial
aid office of your current institution. This is especially important when you are
transferring to Southeast for the spring or summer semesters. The other school must
cancel any financial aid they have processed for the semester you will be enrolling
at Southeast, or we will be unable to provide you aid.
Transfer Hours for Financial Aid:
Before we can begin working on your financial aid award, we must make sure you are
meeting the requirements of our Satisfactory Academic Policy. How can you help us in this process? Make sure the Registrar’s Office has all of
your official transcripts. Not only is this information used to help determine what
classes you will take, it will be used to determine your academic progress for financial
aid purposes.
If you are transferring for the spring or summer semester we recommend sending a copy
of your most recent transcript, and then sending a final version once you have completed
your last semester. Aid eligibility is officially based on your final transfer transcript.
However, if you have been very successful academically and it is highly likely you
will meet Satisfactory Academic Progress at Southeast, we may be able to begin processing
aid sooner.
If you are joining us for a semester immediately following a semester of enrollment
at another school, there is a short period of time between semesters, and financial
aid cannot be processed in one day. Make sure to send transcripts and communicate
with us early!
Transfer Scholarships:
Did you know that Southeast offers scholarships specific to transfer students? All
students can apply for endowed scholarships, but we also offer merit scholarships
to transfer students that have done well academically. For more information on the
transfer scholarships, visit Transfer Student Scholarships.
Awarding Financial Aid:
Fall Transfers:
Once you have met all of the requirements listed above, you will fall into the same
awarding aid timeline as prospective students (mid-March).
Spring Transfers:
We will begin awarding your financial aid as soon as you meet all of the above requirements.
Summer Transfers:
We will begin awarding your financial aid when you have met the above requirements
and have enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for the summer semester.
