The Specimen and Spectacle, an exhibition of works by Meredith Cawley, will be on view Friday, May 2 through Friday, May 30 in the Wolz Ruzicka Hallway Gallery in the ARX Building on River Campus, Southeast Missouri State University.

Meredith Cawley is a multimedia artist based in Texas. She currently teaches in the Foundations and Interdisciplinary Art and Design programs at the University of North Texas. Her artistic practice spans drawing and installation, with a focus on speculative fiction.

Her 10 years as an outreach educator at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History inspire, inform, and drive her practice. Her current line of inquiry focuses on how cultural opinions represent, shape, and affect the bear. Much of her work explores an imagined future where aliens have intervened to save bears from extinction. Black bears, which are native to Missouri, serve as a significant source of inspiration in her work, and the chance to exhibit in a region connected to their habitat holds personal meaning.

An opening for The Specimen and Spectacle will take place on Friday, May 2 from 5-7 p.m. in the Wolz Ruzicka Hallway Gallery.

All gallery exhibitions, events, and talks are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the ARX Gallery at arxgallery@semo.edu.
