Routines in the Night/Daybreak, an exhibition of works by Nik Myers, will be on view from Friday, March 7 through Friday, March 28 in the Slingshot Gallery at Catapult Creative House.
Nik is a student in the Department of Art and Design at Southeast Missouri State University pursuing a degree in art. His exhibition, Routines in the Night/Daybreak, explores the quiet, consuming thoughts of night. The moments when solitude sharpens into self-examination. As someone with insomnia, Myers exist in these hours, caught in the limbo of exhaustion and wakefulness, where self-loathing, insecurity, and longing take root. This collection of works displays the restless discourse between his mind and body in the dark. This show explores the thoughts that circle endlessly, the whispered fears that refuse to fade even with sleep.
Each month and as a part of a program to promote community based and integrated art making, a student artist is chosen to exhibit his or her work at the Slingshot Gallery at Catapult Creative House. These exhibitions showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations as a part of the Southeast Missouri art community. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature, and the role of art in contemporary society.
An opening reception for Routines in the Night/Daybreak will take place on Friday, March 7 from 5-7 p.m. in the Slingshot Gallery at Catapult Creative House. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public.
