Lyrically Inspired, an Exhibition of Works by Lisa Asmus, will be on view from Friday, February 7 through Friday, February 28 in the Slingshot Gallery at Catapult Creative House.

Lisa Asmus graduated from Southeast Missouri State in 1999 with a BS in Biology. She has participated as an alto in community choirs and as a violinist in community orchestras. She is currently furthering her academic career by attaining a BFA specializing in sculpture. As a non-traditional student, she feels accepted and supported by both her fellow students and instructors at Southeast. She and her husband, Shawn, have been married for 30 years. They have four adult children: three sons, one daughter, and one daughter-in-law.

According to Asmus, “Music has been an important part of my life since my earliest memories. Listening to Queen’s “We Will Rock You” when I was a toddler made me think of football players because of the “mud on your face” lyric. My favorite singers and songwriters inspired my life-long vivid imagination. In this exhibition, I express the images and feelings I get when listening to musical artists.”

Each month and as a part of a program to promote community based and integrated art making, a student artist is chosen to exhibit his or her work at the Slingshot Gallery at Catapult Creative House. These exhibitions showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations as a part of the Southeast Missouri art community. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature, and the role of art in contemporary society.

An opening reception for Lyrically Inspired will take place on Friday, February 7 from 5-7 p.m. in the Slingshot Gallery at Catapult Creative House.

All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public.
