On Sunday, Sept.17, at 3 p.m., the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will present its annual, free “Symphony Sampler” concert in the Atrium of the Cultural Arts Center on the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

This concert will provide an informative introduction to the 2023—2024 symphony season. Once again this year, the program will feature different sections of the orchestra in a series of short chamber music pieces. Student groups that will be performing will include the Southeast Horn Choir, an upper strings ensemble, a flute trio, a solo and a duet for cello, a percussion ensemble, and similar small chamber ensembles. This will be an excellent opportunity for the audience to hear some of the key musicians in the Southeast Missouri Symphony performing in small ensembles, in the relaxed atmosphere of the Atrium. There will also be drawings for free tickets to the upcoming symphony concerts.

“This light-hearted program should be an enjoyable event for our audience,” commented Dr. Sara Edgerton, the conductor of the Southeast Missouri Symphony. “A wide variety of different instruments and sections of the orchestra will be featured at this concert, and I think everyone will welcome the opportunity to hear the diverse selections that will be performed. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to introduce their children to the glorious sounds of the instruments that make up the symphony orchestra. I will also provide some background and descriptions about the upcoming 2023—2024 Southeast Missouri Symphony Series. We certainly welcome everyone to join us for this informative, short concert to start off our new concert season! Once again this year, this event falls during Family Weekend, so families and guests are especially invited to hear the short concert.”
