All residents are expected to vacate their rooms 24 hours after their last exam or by 5pm May 13 unless participating in graduation.
We ask that everyone demonstrate a high degree of respect and courtesy during finals week to allow others to study. Quiet hours for finals week begin at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, May 8th. At all times it is expected that floor communities will maintain a quiet environment conducive to studying. The priority is for students to be able to study in their rooms.
Change your address - Do you receive bank, credit card, and/or insurance statements? Maybe you have subscribed to and receive DVDs, books and/or magazines? Or, your family and friends send you personal letters? Please contact any person or business/organization who regularly sends mail to you and change your address with them prior to checking out for the summer.
Changing your address with them directly will allow your mail to be sent directly to you instead of having the University forward your mail. This saves time and potential problems with delayed or misdirected mail. The University will not forward magazines, catalogs, bulk mailings, or any other non-first class mail.
Packages delivered by UPS, FedEx, and other couriers will not be accepted, forwarded or held for pick up; but instead will be returned to sender.
Should any First Class mail be received for you, after you check out, it will be forwarded to the permanent address you have listed with the Registrar’s Office.
If you want your First Class mail sent to a different address over the summer, be sure to change your mailing address located in the “Personal Information” in the My Southe@st Portal.
Student have two options for checking out of their spring assignment:
The Office of Residence Life provides you two options as you prepare to move out of the halls at the end of the academic year. Residents have the option of completing a Traditional Checkout or the alternate Express Checkout. The Office of Residence Life encourages residents to complete the Traditional Checkout procedures if you are the first person to check out of the room and/or to take responsibility for damages incurred while occupying the room.
Express Checkout is an alternative residence hall check out process for residents who wish to leave the hall without a formal “walk through” appointment. Express Checkout is best used for students who do not have damages to their room and have cleaned their room thoroughly. In exchange for the ability to check out without a formal process, the ability to contest/appeal cleaning or damage charges is waived.
Regardless of your selection, your room must be in its original condition prior to your check out or you may be charged for damages/cleaning. Penalties will be assessed for failing to check out properly (indicated in parentheses below).
If you are not graduating or moving to summer session housing, you are required to check out of your room 24 hours after your last exam.

Express Checkout Procedures
It is important you follow the instructions above. We do not want to charge students for failing to take responsibility in properly checking out. However, due to time constraints, we have no choice but to assess clean up and damage charges for students who fail to check out and/or move properly. Thank you for your cooperation.
All students who will be staying on campus for the summer session will be required to relocate to Myers Hall. Students will be allowed to move into their summer assignments beginning at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Sunday, May 15th unless prior approval is given by the Office of Residence Life. All students will be expected to be checked out of their spring housing assignments by 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15th, unless prior arrangements have been made.
