Reading Scholar Program

Program Details

The Reading Scholar Program is a select group of intellectually curious students who are interested in taking a slight departure from the typical classroom and explore the ideas of economic, historical, and philosophical content by reading books and discussing them with a group of peers and professors. This is a semester-long development program for current SEMO students.

Scholars will be expected to choose and read 8 books over the course of 16 weeks. The group meets eight times over the course of the semester (every other week) to discuss the readings.

It is expected that all participants will be in attendance at each gathering. Each scholar will receive a stipend of $500, a certificate, and complementary copies of all the selected books upon the program completion. Students also have an option to participate in an essay competition with 1st place award of $1,000.

Fall 2018 Meeting Time: Mondays 7:00 pm -9:00 pm starting August 27th
