A. Robert Buchanan moved that the Council approve the minutes from the December 3rd
meeting. Sarah Cron seconded. The Council approved the minutes.
B. Action Items
1. Proposed New Certificate Options in the following: (Chris McGowan)
BS Ed in Biology
BS Ed in Chemistry
BS Ed in Earth Science
BS Ed in Physics
Vic Gummersheimer made a motion to approve the 4 options. Sarah Cron seconded. Margaret
Waterman explained the changes to the 4 options. A question was raised regarding
the different requirements for the state versus the requirements for Southeast. Dr.
Waterman stated that Southeast meets more vigorous standards than the state requires.
The motion was passed to approve the 4 options.
2. Establishment of the Applied Statistics Center
Ed Buis made a motion to approve the establishment of the Applied Statistics Center.
Sarah Cron seconded. Vic Gummersheimer explained the purpose and the intent of the
Applied Statistics Center. He explained no additional funds are needed to implement
the Center All costs will be absorbed by he Department of Mathematics. He also stated
that an internal advisory board would be made up of people within the Department.
He stated this center could be used by internal and external clients. The motion
was passed.
3. Revised Engineering Physics Program
A revision to the Engineering Physics Program was presented as an informational item.
Dean Jones stated that the Physics Department should be commended for their work on
revising the program.
