- Action Items
- New Major Proposal: Corporate Communication
Jones opened with comments and passed the floor to Harte & Sterrett who explained
the new major proposal, Corporate Communication, and opened the floor for questions
and discussion. It was stated that the new major would enlighten students of job
opportunities without obligation/commitment of job placement for the students, would
not create any additional cost to Kent Library, would integrate the internet and computer
technology into the program, and would benefit if an internship was added to the program.
It was moved by Shaw and seconded by Scates to approve the new major. The motion
was approved unanimously.
- Department of Geosciences: Minor in Soil Science – New
McGowan opened with a motion to change the name of the proposed minor from Soil Science
to Pedology/Soil Science. (Pedology is defined as: the scientific study of soils,
their origins, characteristics, and uses.) After an explanation of the new minor,
McGowan opened the floor to discussion and comments. It was moved by Shaw and seconded
by Pittman to approve the new minor proposal under the name of Pedology/Soil Science.
The motion was approved unanimously.
- Environmental Science Curriculum – Revision
McGowan opened with comments and turned the floor over to Overmann who explained the
proposed revisions to the Environmental Science curriculum. Overmann explained that
the changes would move up the priority of experiential learning within the curriculum.
Discussion ensued regarding the fact that an “emphasis” in a major is not presently
documented on the students’ college transcript, and how this may become a problem
and/or legal issue when students submit a vitae and transcript to prospective employers.
It was moved by McGowan and seconded by Eddleman to approve the revised Environmental
Science Curriculum. The motion was approved unanimously.
- BS in Applied Computer Science - Revisions
McGowan opened with comments and turned the floor over to Duben who explained the
proposed revisions to the BS in Applied Computer Science. It was noted that some
of the revision items needed approval of the College of Science and Mathematics’ College
Council; therefore, it was moved by McGowan and seconded by Shaw to approve the revised
Applied Computer Science pending approval by the College Council. The motion was
approved unanimously.
