This course consists of 24 hours and costs $350 per officer. The class is limited to the first 5 participants.
PREREQUISITE: You must already be a firearms instructor to attend this class. Please submit a copy of your instructor certificate for verification.

Course Summary

This 24 hour course (4 hours classroom, 20 hours range) is designed to give the officer the basic knowledge to teach in-service patrol rifle courses. Weapon deployment, carry condition, transitioning and limitations will be studied. In order to pass this course, the officer must pass a weapon proficiency course of fire.

Please bring the following items with you to class:

  • Magazine-fed, semi-automatic rifle with metallic sights (optional)
  • Primary carry handgun plus 3 magazines including holster and mag pouches
  • Shooting sling and/or carry sling
  • Minimum of three magazines or loading devices
  • Ear protection – MANDATORY
  • Wrap-around eye protection – MANDATORY
  • Shooting mat or blanket
  • Cleaning equipment
  • Spotting scopes – optional but encouraged
  • Rifle magazine pouches – optional but encouraged
  • Baseball cap for safety purposes – MANDATORY
  • Suitable range clothing – including rain gear and boots
  • 500 rounds of service grade rifle ammunition
  • 200 rounds of service grade handgun ammunition


Due to recent shortages, the law enforcement academy no longer supplies ammunition for completion of this class. Please see the previous section for ammo requirements.

Attendance Policy

"Students attending Continuing Education programs sponsored by the Southeast Missouri State University Law Enforcement Academy must attend all of the regular blocks of instruction in order to receive a certificate of completion. In Continuing Education Programs, which consist of discreet blocks of instruction, the student may receive continuing education credits for those blocks which are actually completed."
