Ryan Townsend received his B.F.A. in Voice Performance from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and his M.M. in Voice Performance from The University of Miami’s Frost School of Music in Coral Gables, Florida. He has previously taught theatre, voice, and theory at New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida as well as in his own private studio.
Ryan’s opera and theatre credits range from houses in Philadelphia, Delaware, South Florida, and national tours. Most notably he created the role of Matthew Shepard in the musical drama Not in My Town which had its world premiere at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
With a love for new works, he has also originated the role of Death/Israfil in the world premiere of Coming: A Rock Musical of Biblical Proportions. Other favorite roles include Monastatos in The Magic Flute with OperaDelaware, Henrik in A Little Night Music with City Theatre Company, Peter Pevensie in Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe with Actors’ Playhouse, and Jeff in a show with Area Stage Company.
