Chair / Professor — Leadership, Middle & Secondary Education
Originally from West Central Illinois, I was a teacher and administrator at both the middle and high school levels in Florida. At the University of South Florida in Tampa, I received a B.S. in English Education, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, and Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies.
For eight years, I was an Associate Professor of Education at Cleveland State University (Ohio) as well as department chair and Director of Undergraduate Curriculum. From 2010 until 2019, I was Professor of Educational Leadership at National University (California) where I also served as department chair for six years. I served as Dean of the School of Education at Piedmont College in Georgia prior to coming to SEMO as Professor and Department Chair.
I am the author of three books and over 40 articles and book chapters on school reform, leadership, and curriculum after having studied schools in much of the U.S. and in Sweden. My wife and I have five adult children and a five-year-old granddaughter. In addition, we have a spoiled cat who runs the house but graciously allows us to live there with him.
