I am the Costume Shop Supervisor for the Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance. I am a costume designer and technician in all things costumes (and props). I received my BA in Theatre and a BA in Sociology from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. I attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale for my MFA in Costume Design and Technology with a secondary in Scenic Design.

I have taught several courses in technology and presented as a guest artist or lecturer in many courses involving theatre history, periods and styles of fashion and architecture, Dramaturgy, UI100, Stage Makeup, and Costume Construction. I am an "Certified Organizational Specialist", which comes in handy while trying to keep the shop, and the shows, organized and running smoothly. I was part of the Design team for "An American Hero", a musical that was written, developed and produced by the department and we traveled to perform the show in an off-broadway theatre festival in NYC by which we received many awards.

I am currently a volunteer at The Glenn House, working with the Historical Association of Greater Cape Girardeau. I am also on the board for BlackLight Community, a non-profit organization supporting people of color in the arts which was founded by students within in the Conservatory.

Deana is our Costume Shop Supervisor who wears many hats (literally and figuratively). She is a costume designer and technician in all things costumes (and props). She received her BA in Theatre and her BA in Sociology from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. She attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale for her MFA in Costume Design and Technology with a secondary in Scenic Design. While at SIUC, she taught several courses in technology and presented as a guest artist or lecturer in many courses involving theatre history, periods and styles of fashion and architecture, and Dramaturgy.

She was also a recipient of both, the Eelin Stewart-Harrison Award for Excellence in Costume Design and a Barbazon National Costume Design Award, for her costume design for Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible”. Her designs, for August Wilson’s “Fences”, were chosen to be included in an exhibit at the Praque Quadrennial ’06. Some of her work has graced the stages of Opera Theatre St. Louis, Grand Opera in Miami, The Bard Summerscape in New York, The Ice-House Theatre, Unto these Hills Outdoor Theatre, Lost Colony, McLeod Summer Playhouse, Lady of the Snows Shrine, Jeffers Theatre, Fireman's Kitchen Caberet Theatre, and Old Colony Players. Some of her most recent production credits include; A Chorus Line, The Addams Family, The Magic Flute, The Children of Eden, Les Hugenots, Into the Woods, The Children's Hour, Twelfth Night, Godspell, Big River, The Crucible, Fences, Othello, Lysistrata, Medea, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and various Dance pieces.

Ms. Luetkenhaus is a member of The United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT), International Apparel and Textile Association (IATA), International Museum of Woman (IMoW), American College Theatre Festival (ACTF), Alpha Psi Omega (APO) honorary theatre fraternity, The Southeast Theatre Conference (SETC), Costume Society of America (CSA), American Sociology Association (ASA) and American Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE). She has many interests, but just a hand full is: historic reproduction of clothing, fabric modification, millinery, mask, and puppet making. She has presented her work at ACTF, PKP, SETC, and ATHE conferences as well as teaching master classes at various universities and organizations. Ms. Luetkenhaus enjoys occasionally playing the role of Scenic Designer, properties master, costume crafts artisan, and general stage crew. In her spare time she takes pleasure in reading and researching just about anything.
