Recertification of Athletic Program

The Southeast Department of Athletics is currently undergoing the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) third-cycle recertification process. This certification process evaluates the Athletic Department’s commitment to three operating principles outlined by the NCAA, including governance and commitment to rules; academic integrity; and gender/diversity issues and student-athlete well-being.

A steering committee has been appointed to lead a comprehensive and transparent self-study evaluating the integration of these principles within the governance and day-to-day operations of the Athletic Department. Dr. Chris McGowan, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics and interim dean of Graduate Studies, serves as the steering committee chair. Given the broad-based nature of the self-study, the steering committee has representation from all campus constituencies. In addition, four subcommittees have been appointed that are working in collaboration with the steering committee to complete a thorough self- study, which will be posted on this website when it is completed. Southeast will deliver a report to the NCAA in April 2011, which will be followed with a Peer Review Team on-campus visit in November 2011.
