In the Spring of 2017 the Southeast Missouri State University Studio Jazz Band embarked on a trip to Nashville Tennessee with the objective of gaining invaluable recording experience at a world class studio. On April 12, the ensemble arrived at The Tracking Room Studio located in Nashville’s historic music row. During a full day of production, students gained many insights into the technical process of modern tracking and overdubbing. This included many first time experiences including working with monitors, close position microphones, isolation booths, click tracks, and professional engineers. At the conclusion of the day, five compositions were successfully recorded which included an original student piece. This was an extraordinary and unprecedented opportunity for the ensemble, the department, and the university. The students are grateful for the support of Jazz Friends foundation which helped to make this experience possible.
