Artist’s Statement
When I was in graduate school I had to write a statement about my work.  The duality then was expressed by the words “macrocosm” and “microcosm.”  Today, those words still apply, but I would also add the duality of “randomness” and “structure.”  The fluidity of water-based media allows the building of layer upon layer of transparent and opaque paint in a somewhat chaotic manner.  The grid, as neutral a structure as I can find, allows me to organize the images I find in the paint.

“What I would like to emphasize now is what I hope the viewer finds:
a place of rest in a chaotic world
an arrest of one’s viewing to look further at some
              small piece
a recognition that we have both been in the same
              place  at some time.”

(From interviews shortly preceding her death)
What influences my work:
color
textiles, from Central American to African to contemporary cloth
textures
my love for the environment
materials
taking time just to look
