A retrospective look at Carter’s eclectic mix of genres, incorporating landmarks, portraits, and abstracts.

“On the one hand I enjoy producing traditional paintings of land and seascapes, portraits, and wildlife—surface considerations of what is pleasant to the eye and comforting to the spirit. On the other hand, I am moved by a desire to produce larger, abstracted works of strident colors and bold design—efforts to tickle the eye and stimulate the soul with something unexpected.”

Carter received a BFA in Studio Art from Truman State University, Kirksville, Missouri, with concentrations in Painting, Ceramics, and Photography. He worked for a newspaper for six years, he was graphics manager for a sign company for 15, and he has been self-employed since 2011. dave and his wife, Dr. Sally Carter, moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 2014 where she is Director of Testing for Southeast Missouri State University.
